Introducing Directed

Why we're building a place where people and AI work on the same problem, together.

ยท The Directed team

Most people use AI on their own. You open a chat, work through a problem, and when you're done, the context stays with you. If you get stuck, bringing someone else in means starting over: explaining what you tried, what didn't work, and where you think the problem is.

We think that's backwards. The best work has always come from people working together, and AI doesn't change that. It makes it more important. AI brings capabilities that help us explore, create, and solve problems. People bring goals, context, judgment, and the kind of knowledge that only comes from having done something before.

Directed is built to bring those together. You can talk to Shannon, our AI, in Slack. You can bring over a conversation you started in ChatGPT or Claude. And when you need help, you can invite a colleague into the conversation itself, with everything that's already happened in view.

When someone helps, their contribution stays connected to them. The question that changed the approach, the correction that saved an afternoon, the explanation that made it click: those become part of a visible record of what they know. Over time, that record makes it easier to find the right person for the next problem.

This is the first post on our blog. We'll use it to share what we're building, what we're learning, and how we think people and AI should work together. We'd love to hear what you think.
